With so many product variations, a traditional approach to UL certification would have required testing each configuration individually. That would have meant significant cost, long delays, and a frustrating bottleneck in the product launch.

At the same time, the customer needed a manufacturing strategy that could handle constant variation – without sacrificing efficiency or lead time.

Rethinking Certification

Instead of treating each product variation as a separate challenge, Product Resources worked directly with the certification body to take a smarter approach.

Together, we developed a modular certification strategy under UL-61010-1 that accounted for all current – and even future – configurations.

Rather than submitting dozens of physical units, we built a comprehensive configuration matrix that demonstrated compliance across the entire product family. This allowed multiple variations to be certified under a single framework.

The impact was immediate: faster approval, lower cost, and a clear path forward for future product expansion.

And it didn’t stop there. Today, Product Resources continues to support ongoing compliance by managing factory audits, maintaining detailed quality records, and ensuring every unit shipped meets the required standards.

Manufacturing Built for Flexibility

Certification was only part of the equation. The next challenge was building these devices efficiently—despite their many variations.

Our solution was simple in concept, but powerful in execution.

We manufacture assemblies to a “common core” configuration, allowing us to build at scale while keeping options open. Final customization happens later in the process, based on the customer’s specific needs at the time of order.

This approach gives the customer the best of both worlds:

    • The cost advantages of volume production
    • The flexibility to adapt configurations on demand

It also enables a consistent release schedule, even as product requirements evolve.

Expanding into Control Panels

As the product line matured, the customer saw an opportunity to deliver even more value—by integrating their devices into complete industrial control panels.

That introduced a new layer of complexity, with additional regulatory requirements under UL 508A.

Because Product Resources is a UL 508A-compliant facility, we were able to take this on seamlessly.

Our team evaluated panel designs, ensured proper component selection and layout, and verified compliance through certified technical representatives. Just as importantly, we embedded these requirements into our quality system—so every panel we build matches the certified design.

The result is a fully compliant, ready-to-deploy solution that extends the customer’s offering without adding risk.
